With overwater villas and beach suites, Maalifushi is therefore the ultimate away-from-it-all destination for families, couples, surfers and divers. Although the Maldives are rated amongst the top ten diving destinations in the world, many experienced divers would put them in the top five. The sheer abundance of marine life and the clear visibility make this one of the greatest underwater regions on the planet, with Thaa Atoll’s particular status in the dive world assured by seasonal sightings of hammerheads and Manta Rays. All of this is within easy reach of Maalifushi.
The Maldives in general, and Maalifushi in particular, offer very good water-based activities from diving to surfing. The waters surrounding the islands are clear, calm and exceptionally beautiful. The white sand and shallow lagoons mean sunshine reflects off the seabed, creating pools that are a warm, brilliant turquoise. This is also why the Maldives are appealing to families, with children able to snorkel safely, while for divers, there are numerous chronicled dive sites, as well as large tracts of unexplored channels and reefs which makes the atoll popular with liveaboard dive boats — which aside from Maalifushi, is currently the only other way to access this region in comfort. There are also some very good surf breaks in around Thaa Atoll.
Game Fishing:
Both trolling and casting are employed to work the reefs. Large reef fish such as grouper, wahoo, giant and bluefin trevally, red snapper and dogtooth tuna are the prize catches.
At COMO Maalifushi guests can experience the thrills and frustration of fighting a true champion of the reef with excursions that include fishing equipment, water, soft drinks, beer, tea and coffee.
Gym with weights and cardio equipment.
